Dear Upper Cape Community Members:

I am happy to introduce you to a new guide to the cleanup program at the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR) on Cape Cod.

This guide is the first document developed in conjunction with members of the public to introduce a wide range of topics essential to a more complete understanding of the cleanup program. It includes an orientation to the history of the MMR and the sources of contamination that are being addressed, movement of groundwater and how it is tested, basic technologies that may be used in cleanup, and environmental health. It also identifies many sources of information including local libraries that are gracious enough to host documents of public interest.

I hope you find this guide one that will assist you in developing a better understanding of the cleanup program. I continue to believe more than ever that neighborhood information and dialogue is critical in achieving our mutual goals of protecting the environment and public health. The Air Force remains committed to providing extensive opportunities for community involvement and dialogue.

Sincerely,
