NEWS RELEASE 2001-18 Air Force to Host Meeting of Ashumet Pond Nutrients Advisory Group MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION (MMR), Cape Cod, Mass. — Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) officials will host a meeting of the Ashumet Pond Nutrients Advisory Group (APNAG) on August 2, 2001. The purpose of the APNAG is to provide comments and advice on proposed AFCEE actions for reducing phosphorus inputs to Ashumet Pond from the former Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR) wastewater treatment plant. Group members include local, state, and federal officials; neighborhood residents; and others interested in phosphorus and its effect on Ashumet Pond.This meeting will summarize information previously presented at APNAG meetings held last summer. It will provide an update and opportunity for discussion about the phosphorus inactivation project scheduled to occur in September, the testing of a technology intended to provide reduction of phosphorus in groundwater flowing into the pond and on-going monitoring of pond water quality.
