Military Reservation (MMR), Cape Cod, Mass. Officials of
the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) announced today that the Plume Cleanup Team (PCT) will meet at
6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at the Falmouth Holiday Inn, 291 Jones Road in
Falmouth. The PCT is a citizen advisory team
that provides advice to the regulatory agencies and the AFCEE Installation Restoration
Program (IRP). The IRP is the organization responsible for groundwater and soil
investigation and cleanup on the southern portion of the Massachusetts Military
Reservation (MMR). A meeting topic includes a
presentation on the Fuel Spill 28 (FS-28) Annual Report. The FS-28 plume is located in
Falmouth and underflows Coonamessett Pond. Since beginning operation in 1999, the
treatment plant has cleaned up more than 40 percent of the plume mass. Other meeting topics include a
presentation on the final cleanup alternatives for the FS-12 plume and an update on the
proposed treatment systems that will clean up the Chemical Spill 4 (CS-4), CS-20, CS-21,
and FS-29 plumes. The public is encouraged to attend
this meeting to interact with members of the citizen advisory team, as well as
representatives of AFCEE, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the
Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). To obtain an agenda in advance
