2004-24 MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION, Cape Cod, Mass.
Officials from the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) announced today
that the Plume Cleanup Team (PCT) will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at
the Quashnet Valley Country Club, 309 Old Barnstable Road in Mashpee. The PCT is a
citizen advisory team that provides advice to the regulatory agencies and the AFCEE
Installation Restoration Program (IRP). The IRP is the organization responsible for
groundwater and soil investigation and cleanup on the southern portion of the
Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR). Two main
presentations are data on the leading edge of the Chemical Spill 10 (CS-10) plume which
was recently detected on the east side of Johns Pond in Mashpee, and the Chemical Spill 19
(CS-19) Soil Engineering Evaluation and Cost Analysis document, which presents an
evaluation of CS-19 soil cleanup alternatives and was prepared to expedite the soil
cleanup process. Additional
meeting topics focus on an Ashumet Valley Risk Evaluation and the treatment plant
construction project in Falmouth for the CS-4, CS-20, CS-21, and FS-29 groundwater plumes.
The public is encouraged to attend this meeting to interact with members of the citizen advisory team, as well as representatives of AFCEE, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
