2005-04 MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION, Cape Cod, Mass. Officials of the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) announced today that the Plume Cleanup Team (PCT) will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at the Falmouth Holiday Inn, 291 Jones Road, Falmouth. The PCT is a
citizen advisory team that provides advice to the regulatory agencies and the AFCEE
Installation Restoration Program (IRP). The IRP is responsible for groundwater and soil
investigation and cleanup on the southern portion of the Massachusetts Military
Reservation (MMR). The main
meeting subject is the Ashumet Valley groundwater plume as presentations will be given on
an annual report on the groundwater cleanup and on the feasibility study alternatives,
which are being considered for the selection of a final remedy for this plume. The Ashumet
Valley groundwater plume is located in Falmouth and has been undergoing remediation with a
groundwater extraction, treatment, and infiltration system since November 1999. Other meeting
topics focus on: a Cataumet Civic Association request on the Landfill 1 plume
investigation associated with Red Brook Harbor; investigation and risk evaluation summary
on the Chemical Spill 10 (CS-10) and Storm Drain 4 (SD-4) wetland areas; an updated Fuel
Spill 12 (FS-12) plume contour map; and the treatment plant construction project in
Falmouth for the CS-4, CS-20, CS-21, and FS-29 groundwater plumes.
The public is encouraged to attend this meeting to interact with members of the citizen advisory team, as well as representatives of AFCEE, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
