Public Invited to April PCT Meeting

MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION, Cape Cod, Mass. — Officials of the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) announced today that the Plume Cleanup Team (PCT) will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the Quashnet Valley Country Club, 309 Old Barnstable Road, Mashpee.

The PCT is a citizen advisory team that provides advice to the regulatory agencies and the AFCEE Installation Restoration Program (IRP).  The IRP is responsible for groundwater and soil investigation and cleanup on the southern portion of the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR).

The main meeting topic is a presentation on the remedial alternatives for the Ashumet Valley plume, which are being considered for the selection of a remedy to be included in a final Record of Decision (ROD).  The Ashumet Valley groundwater plume is located in Falmouth and has been undergoing remediation with a groundwater extraction, treatment, and infiltration system since November 1999.

Other meeting topics are an update on the Chemical Spill 10 (CS-10) groundwater plume; cleanup alternatives for the CS-23 plume; and an update on the leading edge data of the Fuel Spill 28 (FS-28) plume.  Both CS-23 and FS-28 are located in Falmouth.

The public is encouraged to attend this meeting to interact with members of the citizen advisory team, as well as representatives of AFCEE, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
