2005-07 MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION, Cape Cod, Mass.
Officials of the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) announced today
that the Plume Cleanup Team (PCT) will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at
the Quashnet Valley Country Club, 309 Old Barnstable Road, Mashpee. The PCT is a
citizen advisory team that provides advice to the regulatory agencies and the AFCEE
Installation Restoration Program (IRP). The IRP is responsible for groundwater and
soil investigation and cleanup on the southern portion of the Massachusetts Military
Reservation (MMR). The main
meeting topic is a presentation on the remedial alternatives for the Ashumet Valley plume,
which are being considered for the selection of a remedy to be included in a final Record
of Decision (ROD). The Ashumet Valley groundwater plume is located in Falmouth and
has been undergoing remediation with a groundwater extraction, treatment, and infiltration
system since November 1999. Other meeting
topics are an update on the Chemical Spill 10 (CS-10) groundwater plume; cleanup
alternatives for the CS-23 plume; and an update on the leading edge data of the Fuel Spill
28 (FS-28) plume. Both CS-23 and FS-28 are located in Falmouth. The public is encouraged to attend this meeting to interact with members of the citizen advisory team, as well as representatives of AFCEE, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
