NEWS RELEASE
2005-25 MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION, Cape Cod, Mass. -
As part of the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellences (AFCEE) Southwest
Plumes Treatment Construction Project, AFCEE would like to announce upcoming traffic
changes for Hatchville residents and users of Boxberry Hill Road. On October 10, 2005 (Columbus Day), Boxberry Hill Road will be closed at the
intersection of Route 151. Local traffic from the west will be detoured along Sam
Turner to Caravel Drive to Goeletta Drive and back to Boxberry Hill Road. Traffic
coming from the east can access Boxberry Hill Road via Ranch Road. This work is required to connect underground pipelines that AFCEE has installed
along Boxberry Hill Road. These pipelines will carry contaminated groundwater from
an extraction well along Boxberry Hill Road to a treatment plant on the Massachusetts
Military Reservation (MMR). Pipelines will then carry clean, treated water from the
plant to two reinjection wells also along Boxberry Hill Road. AFCEE expects to
complete this pipeline connection work in one day. Underground piping will be installed by using trenching equipment.
This construction activity will be very similar to a water main installation.
Typically, construction activities begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. with a
half-hour setup and breakdown time. All equipment will be secured at the end of each
workday. For more information, please call Mr. Doug Karson, AFCEE Community Involvement
Lead at 508-968-4670 ext. 4678. You can also get updated construction information at
