Air Force Public Meeting in Falmouth

MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION, Cape Cod, Mass. - Officials of the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) announced today that the Plume Cleanup Team (PCT) will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 840 Sandwich Road, Falmouth.  The meeting will be preceded by a posterboard event at 5:30 p.m. on the latest investigation results of the Fuel Spill 28 Groundwater Plume in Hatchville.  Both events are open to the public.

The PCT is a citizen advisory team that provides advice to the regulatory agencies and the AFCEE Installation Restoration Program (IRP).  The IRP is responsible for groundwater and soil investigation and cleanup that is, in most instances, on-and-from the southern portion of the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR).

The main meeting topic is an update on the investigation of the leading edge of the Fuel Spill 28 groundwater plume in Falmouth.

Ashumet Pond is the focus of an update presentation on AFCEE’s efforts to reduce the amount of phosphorus entering the pond from the Ashumet Valley groundwater plume.

The public is encouraged to attend this meeting to interact with members of the citizen advisory team, as well as representatives of AFCEE, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
