Air Force Announces Paving Work on Boxberry Hill Road

MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION, Cape Cod, Mass. As part of the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence’s (AFCEE) Southwest Plumes Treatment Construction Project, AFCEE would like to announce upcoming traffic changes for Hatchville residents and users of Boxberry Hill Road.

Starting March 27, 2006, paving of Boxberry Hill Road, from Route 151 to Hatchville Road, will begin and continue for approximately two weeks.  Roads will be open to local residents and a police officer will be on-site to direct traffic.  This work schedule is dependent on weather conditions.  To avoid traffic delays, non-local traffic should seek an alternative route.

Typically, paving activities begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. with a half-hour setup and breakdown time.  All equipment will be secured at the end of each workday.

In the fall of 2005, AFCEE temporarily paved over portions of Boxberry Hill Road where underground pipelines were installed.  These pipelines carry contaminated groundwater from an extraction well along Boxberry Hill Road to a treatment plant on the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR).  Pipelines also carry clean, treated water from the plant to two reinjection wells located along Boxberry Hill Road.  The reinjection wells return the clean water to the groundwater aquifer.
