FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MMR Cleanup Team to meet |
MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY
RESERVATION (MMR), Cape Cod, Mass. —Officials
of the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment (AFCEE) announced
today that a joint meeting of the Plume Cleanup Team (PCT) and Impact Area Review Team
(IART) will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, Building
1805, Camp Edwards, at the Massachusetts Military Reservation. Building 1805 can be reached through the
Sandwich Gate on Snake Pond Road or the Main Gate off of the rotary on Route 28
in Bourne. The building is located near
the water tank on the rotary on base. The
meeting is open to the public and people are encouraged to attend this meeting
to learn more about the base environmental cleanup efforts.
The
teams meet together to cover environmental cleanup issues in both the Air Force
and Army programs as a way to streamline the process and maximize the expertise
of the team members. Members provide input
to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Massachusetts Department of
Environmental Protection, the AFCEE Installation Restoration Program (IRP) and
the Army Environmental Command Impact Area Groundwater Study Program (IAGWSP). The IRP is responsible for groundwater and
soil investigation primarily in the southern
portion of the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR) while the majority of
the IAGWSP work is in the northern 15,000 acres.
Scheduled agenda items
include:

IRP updates on
Hatchville area plumes, the Chemical Spill 19 source area, and planned
construction in Ashumet Valley
·
IAGWSP presentations on
the Robotics demonstration, the Former B & D Ranges and the Central Impact
Area
·
A Massachusetts National
Guard update on the Small Arms Ranges.
