  • News Release #2007-10, October 1, 2007 Records of Decision Signed for LF-1 and CS-23 Groundwater Plumes MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION, Cape Cod, Mass. — Officials from the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment (AFCEE) announced today that two Records of Decision (RODs) have been signed for groundwater plumes emanating from the MMR. A ROD is a final decision under the EPA Superfund program. RODs were signed by AFCEE and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the Landfill 1 (LF-1) and Chemical Spill 23 (CS-23) groundwater plumes. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) concurred with the decisions. Both RODs call for continued operation, maintenance, and optimization of the existing groundwater treatment systems and the implementation of land use controls.Read More...

  • News Release #2007-07, August 6, 2007 No Plume Contaminants in Ashumet, Johns, Coonamessett, Jenkins, Round, Deep and Snake Pond Surface Water Samples MASSACHUSETTS Military Reservation, Cape Cod, Mass.-Officials of the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment (AFCEE) announced today that surface water samples taken in May and July 2007 from area ponds were non-detect for ethylene dibromide and volatile organic compounds. Those compounds are contaminants of concern in plumes being cleaned up by AFCEE. Samples are collected twice a year (May and July) from Ashumet, Johns, Coonamessett, Jenkins, Round (next to Jenkins Pond), Deep and Snake ponds on Upper Cape Cod.
